some help… it’s just nice to know that people are there.”
Sylvia’s case is a typical one, people using the service tend to live on their own
and have limited friends and family that can help.
Anyone can become a volunteer, we are all individuals and come with our own
strengths. People appreciate the support from the British Red Cross, they are
happy to accept help from our amazing volunteers. Without the time that our
volunteers give to others, we wouldn’t have this service here in Dorset. Our
volunteers are compassionate, caring and willing to support those in need.
How to get involved
You can help support people in the local community by becoming a volunteer for
the British Red Cross. If you have a couple of hours to spare each week, we have
a wide range of volunteering roles that we are currently recruiting for in Dorset.

Mobility Aids
From our Dorchester & Poole offices we also run Mobility Aids Services. This
provides vital equipment such as wheelchairs, to people after an accident or
illness, and means that they are not left stranded at home. Volunteers deliver this
service Monday – Friday 10am to 1pm. Telephone 01305 215951 for more
information.
