The Pony Express
The Pony Express was a thrilling
part of early American History.
In the years 1860/61 it
provided a fast postal service

could provide. The riders changed their horses frequently. To conserve weight
the riders had to weigh less than 125lbs, and they wore very light clothing. The
saddles were small and thin and the riders carried no weapons. The horses
themselves wore small shoes or none at all. Letters were written on thin paper
and carried in small flat pouches.
Yet each rider carried a Bible. It was presented to him when he joined the Pony
Express and he carried it with him despite all the weight restrictions. Why?
Because the Bible was regarded as standard equipment. God was important to
people in those frontier days, and His Word was too.
Our life is rather like the Pony Express. We are hurrying through life towards a
distant destination called eternity. God has given us something which should be
part of our standard equipment. It is the Bible which God has given to guide and
teach us.
Is the Bible important to you? Is it part of your standard equipment? Do you read
it daily? 839209
