                                                 GARDENING CLUB

Another record breaking September for warmth.
Now about mid month it is getting a bit colder
and we have had a few overnight frosts. I put
the heating on last night. As I write this we are looking forward to the arrival of
Storm Babette. I have no choice but to cut the grass today. We will have rain for
the next four days. I remember when a weather forecast could not be relied
upon for 24 hours. Now we can check the weekly forecast work out when to
hang washing cut grass or have a Barbeque. The wallflowers I planted last
weekend will now get well watered in tomorrow.
I have been going round the village and helping
myself to apples left out on the street put in boxes
so you can help yourself. I have made some apple
chutney and Beetroot and apple chutney.
Chutney needs six to 12 weeks to mature in the jar
so it will be ready for Christmas presents.
In October we were made very welcome at
Bloxworth village club for our Harvest Supper. We
were down on numbers with people on holiday,
illness and other events. We had plenty to eat and
enjoyed the meal. Paul Openshaw wound up the
evening with a set of his own musical compositions.
Next month we return to the Drax Hall and we
have Roger Hirons talking about putting your
garden to bed for winter. We will then realize all
the things we need to do or have not done. One
thing about gardening club talks you always learn
something new, a new tip, a new plant and a new idea. Please come along We
would love to see you . 7 November, 7.30 p.m Drax Hall all welcome.
                             th
December’s meeting will be a Gardening Question Time “A picture quiz “
