BERE REGIS WILDLIFE AND
ENVIRONMENT GROUP
Many butterflies have been on the wing recently.
However, as moths tend to fly at night we are less
aware of the sheer variety – many more than is the
case with butterflies. There are, though, a few day
flying moths. Two notable ones which have been seen
locally are the scarlet tiger moth (conspicuous by its
black, white, red and yellow markings) and the humming bird hawk moth
(notable, as the name suggests, by its humming bird like characteristic of
hovering next to flower while extending its tongue to suck up nectar).
Birds
Last month we wrote about various bird or Brenda House on 01929 471255
sightings in and around Bere Regis. This
month we have a couple of photos
taken in the locality by Tony Bates,
which you may be interested to see.
They are of house martins on the wing,
an adult swallow with its young on their
nest and a young kestrel. RHODES TO SUCCESS Paul 07788 185048
