                               OBITUARIES

In 1958 at the age of just 17 she was presented at Court in
Buckingham Palace squeezing in just before the ritual of being
presented to the sovereign was ended.
After leaving school she attended Princess Christians in Windsor doing an 18-
month nannies’ course that was incredibly hard work. Following that, she
worked as a nanny with a variety of families in Germany, England and France.

Her expertise as a nanny hugely benefitted us as children and, my sisters when
they became mothers, as she dispensed calming words.
Later on, she also became a qualified swimming teacher and helped hundreds
of children to overcome their fear of water.
At our mothers 22 birthday party she met an army officer for the first time and

within two months they were engaged and three months later they were
       married.
And so our mother began a life of constant packing and moving as an army
wife following the drum. Her last move when she moved from Bere Regis to

She found happiness and pleasure in the simplest of things. She loved people

advertising revenue!! We have received so many letters from so many people in recent weeks and
the words used are completely consistent throughout – words like wonderful,

appearances in nearly all of them. Our mother connected with people from all
walks of life with such ease, and many of you here today from the village may
have started as The Handyman, The Gardner or The Shop Keeper but quickly
became close and important friends to her.

I would like to finish by thanking our wonderful vicar
Charles so much for helping the family over the last
month and my mother over the last few years.
