Later in life, Olive ventured aboard with the family, enjoying visits to the
‘Battle of Flowers’ in Jersey, various locations in Ireland, especially a stay at
Daniel O’Donnell’s Viking House Hotel in Donegal, the ‘Sound of Music’ tour in
Austria and relaxing in Ibiza. In her photo album this particular holiday to Ibiza
had a note against it
“I am pleased I went on this holiday as it was an enjoyable experience.
However, I don’t think I should rush to go again as I am not one for sitting in
the sun although it was nice sitting on the balcony overlooking the Med”.
As well as being with the family, Olive enjoyed trips away with friends,
especially the ‘Turkey & Tinsel’ weekends.
Nearer to home, Olive, with close friends, enjoyed trips out to lunch or
afternoon tea on a monthly basis, with her favourite place being Pine Lodge
Farm, near Dorchester, and especially their liver and bacon dish.
Olive was very much involved in village life, she joined in with various
organisations including Autumn Leaves, Golden
Circle, Mothers Union, RBL Women’s Section and
enjoyed being an active member of the Woodbury
Hill Singers. The family often joked that they had to
book an appointment to see her and that she had
a better social life than themselves.
Olive always wanted to live life to the full and in
