2 minutes. My average speed was 1.8mph but my average moving speed was
2.1mph, not bad for an old boy. More importantly, I had used up 1,022 calories so
I felt entitled to that big breakfast Diana had cooked for me on my return home.
“I won’t be here next Sunday” said Liam” I’ll competing in the Outlaw Triathlon as
part of a team. I am doing the swim”. Good on him and we all wished him well.
Again, that’s the thing with open water swimmers: we can come together as
friends and enjoy a swim for what it is but most of us have our little projects.

I had just completed a 3.8kms swim at Studland in the East Dorset Open Water
Swimming Club’s Seahorse race. I ran it for 5 years so it was good to experience it
from the customer’s viewpoint. I will also be taking part in the 4.6 mile round
Brownsea swim at the beginning of September. Emile and I are planning a swim
of around 10 miles from Wareham Bridge down the River Frome to the sea at
Poole Quay which we don’t think has been done before.
Why do we do it? The health benefits are pretty obvious. That feel good factor
after a swim is always there but I swim because I love it! Simple as that!
