to sell it. So we now own the southern end of the field as well and the whole site is
vested with the Charity Commission Official Custodian.
(Note from Janey: ‘Vesting in the Official Custodian’ simplifies the ownership of
charity land and makes sure that the charity is saved the expense of making the
new deeds required when its holding trustees change or that the land remains
vested in people who are no longer involved with the charity.)
Janey: What sports do you play here? Do they do well?
Peter: We have Cricket and Football adult and youth teams. They have all had a
very good season.
Our first XI cricket team are in the Dorset Premier League. Our Evening League
team won their division and therefore promotion and our Under Elevens won their
district league. We are an “All Stars Cricket” centre for five to eight old boys and
girls and they can go on to join the “Dynamos Cricket programme” for nine to
eleven year olds. Our Women’s and Girls Cricket teams play in the West Dorset
Softball Indoor League and the Intermediate Softball League West Area
competition, but they can also play in any of the club’s cricket teams as
appropriate.
In football, our adult men’s team, Bere Regis FC, were Champions of Division 3 in
the Dorset Football League last season, so are promoted to Division 2 in the
coming season. We have junior football teams from under sevens to under
sixteens and they all had a very successful season too. We provide an opportunity
for as many boys and girls as possible.
Our darts team currently play in the Wareham and District Friday Night Darts
League and our pool team play in the Dorchester Town Summer Pool League.
We could boast that we have a bigger trophy cabinet than some professional
teams!
Janey: It is a very impressive trophy cabinet!
Andy: All our coaches, managers, players and administrators are volunteers and
training is provided at all levels. If anyone is interested, get in touch. We are a
very active club and always need support. Often this starts with parents whose
child starts to play with us, but then their own interest grows. We are a very
sociable club.
Peter: We have a licensed bar, again staffed by volunteers and usually open on
Friday, Saturday and Sundays after our sports events. It is a good social space
and obviously is a good income stream for the club. We have Sky TV for live major
sports and games and we let the space for events and celebrations, as long as
these don’t clash with our own club events.
Janey: How do you see the future for the club?
