LOCAL HEROES
A new series with interviews from Janey Gordon

There has been some reticence amongst the people that I have approached to
be the subject of these regular articles - no-one really wants to be called a hero
- so we have been missing out on some of the key members of our community
who are a wee bit bashful. Those that have succumbed to my arm-twisting
techniques have needed a huge amount of persuasion!
More importantly, Janey Gordon, our intrepid reporter
has also found it difficult to get our willing volunteers to
talk about themselves.
Needless to say, and with the benefit of hindsight, I
should have thought more carefully when naming these
articles, so, in future, they will be called ‘Spotlight on’.
The first of these will be next month, when Janey will be
exploring the activities of our terrific team of bell ringers. I
am keen to Spotlight groups as well as individuals so if
you have any bright ideas of subjects for the forthcoming
articles, please do let me know.
The main requirement is that we are concentrating on
people who give up their time to benefit our community,
providing assistance to others, or simply ‘being there’ to
provide a listening ear or a helping hand.
