October 2022 October 2022

                                                                                            Bonny, Bonny Bird
Oh, you bird, you bonny, bonny bird,
Oh, you bird, you bonny, bonny bird, I’ve often heard you call.
It causes me to grieve. Staking claim on your domain,
I did not mean to bring you down, And standing proud and tall.
Nor you from life relieve. In field and wood, these eyes beheld,
There’s no way, I can express, Your glory in their sight,
These feelings of remorse. As darkness falls at eventide,
This way of life can seem unkind, And by dawn’s early light.
                                                                                            As nature takes her course.
Oh, you bird, you bonny, bonny bird,
Oh, you bird, you bonny, bonny bird, You have good thoughts inspired.
If I could make amends, The only sadness is that thoughts,
But there’s no way, except to say, Like these, your death required.
With sorrow my heart bends. Rest in peace, you’ll never be,
You make me stop in my tracks, Forgotten while I live.
To pause and to reflect. I’d give you back the life I took,
How sad the man, who will not give, If life were mine to give.
                                                                                            One such as you respect.
                                                                                                                                                    Paul J Openshaw

                                                                                            Spartacus

I remember watching the movie, in which, Kirk Douglas was the man.
He seemed to have the ability to do what no other can.
He did not wear too much down below, so that, of foot he could be fleet.
How did he cope with mosquitoes, as Spartacus pre-dated Deet?

When he led his revolt to free slaves, and the Romans were his foe,
It must have seemed a task, for which to extraordinary lengths he’d go.
When Kirk was clad in his leather skirt, giving access to legs and feet,
How did he cope with mosquitoes, as Spartacus pre-dated Deet?

It cannot have been easy back then, causing irritation to life.
I cannot think for a moment that mozzies were any less rife.
Spartacus pre-dated underwear, implicating groin and seat.
How did he cope with mosquitoes, as Spartacus pre-dated Deet?

                                                                                                                                                    Paul J Openshaw
