LETTER FROM OUR ASSOCIATE PRIEST
28th Folk Night, Skittle Alley, Drax Arms Hickory Moon 7.30pm
I feel very privileged to have spent most of my life in rural parts of the country. We
did live in Basingstoke for a few years when we were first married, but even then
December we were never far from a park or a footpath that led to the countryside. Even
when we lived in Hong Kong, we managed to rent a bungalow out in the New
Territories, after a month spent on the 13 floor of a high rise hotel in the middle of

too, I remember in 2000 we took Adam and Lucy to London for a few days, it was
August and we camped at Leighton. We would catch a bus to the train station
and then travel into the centre by train/tube each day, on the third day Lucy
(age 9) said ‘Do we have to go on a bus and train again?’ She didn’t enjoy the

could get back to North Dorset!
22nd Carols and Mince Pies Of course you can’t always escape the crowds in the countryside particularly if
it’s a popular place, but off the beaten track you can usually find the quieter
places. This doesn’t mean they’re any less busy, just in a different way – filled with
wildlife, farm animals, crops, farmers and other stewards of the land all
contributing in different ways to our rural economy.
