OBITUARIES
Music at St Peter’s Church, Dorchester offer two musical events during May. We
present the first in our summer series of coffee concerts on Sunday 15 May at
Reginald John Trafford Snook 11.45am. Join us for coffee and a short recital of songs performed by Amy Bolster,
our alto choral scholar this year.
Reg was born in Bere Regis on 2nd May 1934 the third child of Cyril and Hilda
and youngest Brother to Stan and Eric and they lived at the Family home 90 Amy has just been awarded a choral scholarship at Selwyn College, Cambridge
West Street here in Bere Regis where she will read music from September. Her programme includes music by J.S.
Bach, Pergolesi, Purcell and Gershwin.
He attended school in the village until he was 15 having occasional days at

his best mate Clifford Barnes smashed the rebound into the net to win the
cup for Bere and they brought the cup home and paraded it around the
village on the bus.
Reg and Clifford would still joke 70 years on; including at the salt and pepper
club the last time they met there how far out Clifford scored from - all of 18
inches he said
When he left school, he worked for Bedford and Jesty until he was called up
for national service in 1952 serving in the Royal
Army Service Corp which included a tour to Egypt
He returned to Bere Regis in 1954 and continued
to work for Bedford and Jesty at the watercress
beds and continued to play football for the village
team also later for Wareham Rangers and he also
represented Dorset and was very proud of his
Dorset County Cap, which is now framed and
displayed in Paul’s mancave in Fareham, where
he saw it take pride of place.
