most dainty sandwiches, little savoury wraps
and tiny little cakes. It was all completely
delicious and unlike anything I’ve had
before. The tents were dressed with
elaborate tall flower arrangements all the
same, at regular intervals, and the tables in
crisp white linen. You had an oblong plate that housed your food and your cup,
we took ours outside and sat near one of the military bands.
The band music really sets the atmosphere. Literally thousands of people in all
kinds of fashion some wearing weird or wonderful hats and fascinators. I especially
enjoyed seeing the people who had worn their national costume, it was a vibrant
mix of colours and cultures, a small window on how the Royals live their lives and I
was very grateful to have been able to have this once in a lifetime experience
and to share it with the person whom without his love, understanding and support
I would not hold The British Empire Medal.
This Year this prestigious Royal event has of course been cancelled, this will be very
disappointing for those who were invited to attend.
We will always hold dear the special memories of our day at the Palace.
