That parcel had been on its way for five whole months, packed up by my former
Sunday School class, whose leader had heard and obeyed God’s prompting to
send a hot water bottle, even to the equator. And one of the girls had put in a
dolly for an African child – five months before, in answer to the believing prayer of
a ten year old, to bring it ‘that afternoon’.
God’s Word is true – as Isaiah 65:24 says, “Before they call, I will answer;, while they
are still speaking I will hear ... says the Lord”. Oh, to have the faith of a child!
Perhaps we feel like that doctor, that God doesn’t really answer prayer, well not
impossible ones. May this story encourage us to trust God more, and perhaps
more importantly, to listen to God’s promptings so that we might be part of the
answer to other people’s prayers!
