       AUTUMN LEAVES FIRST
       THURSDAY CLUB

We were still in the Jubilee mood for our June Meeting.
Our tables were festooned with Red white and Blue
again and we enjoyed a look back over previous royal
celebrations from previous royal events. The show
started with a few black and white pictures from the l935 silver Jubilee of George
V, the coronation, and right up to the recent platinum jubilee. Wonderful pictures
of Kath Jeeves and the Woodbury singers, Poems and extracts from the recent
Happy and Glorious show by the Pop In. It was interesting to note that our village
                                             celebrations were much smaller for
the silver and Golden Jubilees and it
was only when we reached the
Diamond Jubilee in 2012 that Bere
Regis really got into the party mode.
This could have been that we have a
more active role by the Parish council
                                             in driving forward these celebrations.

What was clear that with all our events
this year Bere Regis really went to town
and hopefully that if there is another
Jubilee in the future this presentation
will show just how we can party for a
royal celebration. I would like to thank
Ian Ventham and Tony Bates for
                                             working so hard putting this
presentation together in the few days between the end of our celebrations and
our meeting on 9 June. When there are so many pictures it is often difficult to
                       th
       decide what pictures to use.
Next month we are back to our normal day on the first Thursday 7 July when Tim
                                                                 th
Colquhoun will be talking to us about the important role of the Coast Watch
volunteers in spotting problems off our coast. This will take place 2.30 p.m at the
Scout hut and followed by Tea and sandwiches. This all for the cost of £3.00 to
include tea and a raffle ticket

In August our speakers will be officers from Dorset Waste Partnership who will be
giving us a talk on Dorset’s recycling strategy, why how Dorset does it and what
can we do to help recycle more. I’m sure there will be a recycling games “know
your rubbish” etc. It will be a fun afternoon with lots of tips to help us.
Please come along. We now have a full programme for the rest of the year.
