OBITUARIES
Eileen Richardson (26 March 1928 – 4 May 2022)
Eileen has been a regular contributor of poetry to the parish magazine for the
last few years. She has written more than 300 songs and more than 300
poems so they can continue to appear in the parish magazine for a little
while – with the agreement of the editor and the readership of course!
Eileen was born and grew up in Poole with her parents and her older brother,
Ralph. She did well at school and started work at 16 in the National Provincial
Bank in Poole High Street. She met Ken on her regular cycle ride to work and
they married within a couple of years.
Eileen and Ken changed jobs and moved home several times in their early
years together, eventually going into house building, which was successful for
more than 20 years. When Eileen and Ken’s 2 children, Mike and Lesley were
growing up Eileen started writing songs, as a way of expressing her feelings
and emotions. She had a real gift for song writing, despite not being able to
read or write music. She tried to get her songs published or recorded by some
of her favourite singers. Many musicians recognised the quality of her music
and lyrics, and several of her songs did well in national and international song
competitions.
Ken and Eileen enjoyed boating in Poole harbour and weekends were often
spent going to Shell Bay, Brownsea Island or up the river to Wareham. When
Ken retired they moved from Poole to Bere Regis and loved the peaceful
rural setting of the village and the friendly community. They enjoyed exploring
the surrounding countryside by cycling or walking. They also took great
pleasure in the garden and moved to a house with a larger garden in
Winterborne Kingston after a few years.
When Ken died in 2008 Eileen quickly moved back to Bere Regis as she had
missed the village community – and wanted a smaller garden again! She
found friends at the Pop in Place and the Salt and Pepper Lunch Club and
soon had regular coffee mornings, lunches and
outings with her friends. She lived very happily in
Bere Regis for nearly 14 years, with the support of
her lovely neighbours and her family as her mobility
decreased. Only 6 months ago she decided to
move to a care home and was very fortunate to
find Castle Farm at Lytchett Matravers.
Family was always very important to Eileen and she

MATRAVERS
Castle Players would like to thank everyone who came to
see their production of Still Alice in May are proud to
announce that over the week of the show we made £1603
for The Alzheimer's Society - a fantastic success.
We are now preparing for our Autumn production of The
Holly and the Ivy.
It looks like a lovely feel-good play for the autumn
and into the run up to Christmas. Beautifully
written by Wynyard Browne, it tells the tale of
Christmas Eve at the parish of the Reverend
Martin Gregory and his daughter Jenny who is
making last minute preparations for the arrival of
the rest of the family. But this Christmas is going to
be unlike others as family issues boil over and the
Reverend discovers that, quite contrary to his
belief that he has always acted in the best
interests of his flock and his family, in actual fact,
his piousness and rigid adherence to his own
interpretations of the teachings of the bible have made him unapproachable
and distant.
With a cast of four women and four men there look to be some really cracking
parts for you.
We’ve seen what a brilliant job Mark did with his direction of Too Long an Autumn.
We can be sure that this will be right up there with the best.
There will be a read through on 26th June at 7pm at Morden Village Hall and
Auditions will be held on the 17th July - more details to follow.
