hard to keep a vibrant and exciting group in the
village delivered by Ian Ventham, Chair of the
Parish Council.
The evening ended with an update on the Borneo
Fund Raising from Geoff Sagar. The trip in 2021 will
see approximately 20 young people with leaders
travelling to Borneo for 4 weeks to take part in
conservation work and some exciting expeditions thru the rain forest. Please do
all you can to support the many and varied events that will be taking place over
the next 2 years to raise the required funds.
Explorer News
The summer term started with another activity night at Buddens. This time the
Explorers took to the water, after designing and building their own rafts. All 3
teams managed to build rafts that not only floated but did not fall apart during
their time on the lake. A fun, but quite wet, night was had by everyone.
Building and lighting fires is always something that needs more practice so at one
of the activity evenings at the Hut the Explorers had some expert tuition from
Julien and Phil for starting a good campfire. They also had to make a gadget to
hold a billy can full of water to boil an egg. This was then followed by cooking
and devouring some dampers with jam and Nutella, plus baking a cinnamon roll
in an orange. All campfire treats proved very yummy!
An evening hiking down on the South West Coastal path was organised by our
Explorer colleagues down in Swanage. It was a fantastic opportunity to make the
most of seeing our beautiful coastline and to test out some leg muscles with a few
very steep climbs. Throughout the summer term more outdoor activities are
planned (to the beach, to Dorset Water park, by the river) and the Explorers will
be getting out and about on their bikes in order to practice for their summer
camp, which is to visit the French and Belgium WW1 battlefield sites on bicycle
