       Open Spaces

In addition to some scrub clearance, the environment and wildlife group has this
month completed the coppicing of a section of the of the overstood hazels along
Bere Stream between the Shitterton road bridge and the Jubilee bridge. This will
allow much more light to reach the stream which will benefit the rich aquatic life
that our stream is well known for. It also creates an attractive alternative pathway
close to the stream. We would like to thank the small but energetic group of
volunteers who done a great job to improve our environment.
                                                                 Bryan Benjafield

                              AUTUMN LEAVES

Unfortunately we had to cancel our meeting in March
because the speaker from the Dorset and Somerset Air
Ambulance Charity was unable to attend due to the
                              Coronavirus.
This was rather unfortunate as we were intending to use
the meeting to ensure the future of the Club following
the death of our Founder and President, Kath Jeeves.
However, all the members were sent details of the proposals for their
consideration, together with a series of questions about their view of the meetings
and the things that make Autumn Leaves so enjoyable.
It is early days yet, but most of the replies that have come in so far have been
very enthusiastic about the club continuing in its present form, so we must be
       doing something right!
Also they all like the name “Autumn Leaves", so I don't understand why it seems to
deter people from joining us! Those who have never been say that the name
reminds them of something old and wrinkly, and that they would never go to a
club for old people, BUT the members who come are young at heart, with lively
attitudes and enjoy socialising with like-minded people. Although it was originally
designated for the “Over 60's", the members would like to see younger people
there, so if you are over 50, over 40, or even 30, do come along and see what we
       have to offer.
In view of the current uncertainty, whether or not we hold the meeting arranged
for Wednesday 8 April, is still in the balance, however if you wish to know more,
                      th
please call Sylvia on 472697 to find out.
