LETTER FROM OUR ASSOCIATE PRIEST

I wonder if you liked school when you were younger? When you think back is it
something that makes you smile, or does it make you feel uncomfortable? For the
most part, I was very lucky with all the schools I went to, except one. It wasn’t just
the school, but the whole environment where we were living for six months which
was quite unlike anything we had been used to as a family.
Enough of the negative though, let’s stick with the positive. I have friends that I
met in the last year of Junior School, age 11, that are still good friends today, we
meet up a couple of times in the year and it’s as if we’ve never been away from
each other. I had some good teachers, but I also had some great, inspirational
teachers that would make learning come alive. We all need a bit of inspiration
and I think there’s nothing better than inspiring youngsters, whether that’s as a
parent, grandparent, teacher, youth leader, carer etc. I have school on my mind
now because of course September is the beginning of a new academic year, but
also Education Sunday happens to be coming up this month.
Education Sunday is an annual event celebrated in many churches around the
world, including here in the United Kingdom. It serves as a special day to
acknowledge and appreciate the importance of education in our lives. This
event takes place on the second Sunday in September and offers an opportunity
