21st Christmas Lights with Fish and Chip supper - leave at
5.30pm I was out cycling last Saturday – not for the cancelled ‘Tour of Britain’ but for the
Dorset Historic Churches Trust ‘Ride and Stride’. From Bere Regis church I cycled
23rd Christmas Fun Morning. All welcome 10-12 to other churches, passing Turnerspuddle, to Affpuddle, Tolpuddle,
Athelhampton, Puddletown, Tincleton, Woodsford, Crossways, Moreton and
Wool.
All of them special and different in their own ways, most very old, but one very
new – Crossways is built within a school site and is a very modern building.
Tolpuddle offer Airbnb accommodation which is a very interesting thought.
Athelhampton is now used by a Greek Orthodox congregation. I got to see the
lovely Whistler windows inside Moreton church this year. I was powered by lots of
cake that was on offer at some of my stops and even found a few with necessary
facilities!
It’s an interesting way to spend a few hours, avoiding main roads and therefore
not too much traffic, crossing many streams – quite probably the same one
several times, and crossing the railway line, both by bridge and, always more
scary, by road crossing! As I took this journey my thoughts were with our late
