THE BRIANTSPUDDLE OPEN 2023

In accordance with established tradition, on Bank Holiday Monday, 28 August, a
group of ten stalwart local golfers took to the rolling plains of the Dorset Golf Resort
near Bere Regis for the prestigious Briantspuddle Open golf competition, vying for
the honour of winning the small but perfectly-formed Claret Jug.
This year’s event was special in being the 25 year of the tournament, which has
th
taken place continuously since its founding in 1998 by Robin Gainsford, with
support from a few other Briantspuddle-based members of the then East Dorset
Golf Club. The weather gods seemed to sense a special occasion, providing
sunny but thankfully temperate conditions.
The competition this year took the form of a “Bowmaker”, using the best two
Stableford scores over 18 holes from each team of three players. An exotic
Piddlehinton/Throop/Wimborne combo of Honor Brown, Alec Armitage and David
Beardsley took the honours (including that of organizing next year’s event), while
there were also prizes for nearest the pin and longest drive, as well as for runners-
up.
Proceedings concluded with the usual delicious meal provided by the Resort’s
