                                                                                                                                      GARDENING CLUB


                                                                                                                        Another record breaking September for warmth.
                                                                                                                        Now  about  mid  month  it  is  getting  a  bit  colder
                                                                                                                        and  we  have  had  a  few  overnight  frosts.    I  put
                                                                                            the heating on last night.  As I write this we are looking forward to the arrival of
                                                                                            Storm Babette.  I have no choice but to cut the grass today.  We will have rain for
                                                                                            the  next  four  days.    I  remember  when  a  weather  forecast  could  not  be  relied
                                                                                            upon   for  24  hours.    Now  we  can  check  the  weekly  forecast  work  out  when  to
                                                                                            hang  washing  cut  grass  or  have  a  Barbeque.    The  wallflowers  I  planted  last
                                                                                            weekend will now get well watered in tomorrow.
                                                                                            I  have  been  going  round  the  village  and  helping
                                                                                            myself to apples left out on the street put in boxes
                                                                                            so you can help yourself.  I have made some apple
                                                                                            chutney  and  Beetroot  and  apple  chutney.
                                                                                            Chutney needs six to 12 weeks to mature in the jar
                                                                                            so it will be ready for Christmas presents.
                                                                                            In  October  we  were  made  very  welcome  at
                                                                                            Bloxworth village club for our Harvest Supper.  We
                                                                                            were  down  on  numbers  with  people  on  holiday,
                                                                                            illness and other events.  We had plenty to eat and
                                                                                            enjoyed the meal.  Paul Openshaw wound up the
                                                                                            evening with a set of his own musical compositions.
                                                                                            Next  month  we  return  to  the  Drax  Hall  and  we
                                                                                            have  Roger  Hirons  talking  about  putting  your
                                                                                            garden  to  bed  for  winter.    We  will  then  realize  all
                                                                                            the things we need to do or have not done.  One
                                                                                            thing about gardening club talks you always learn
                                                                                            something new, a new tip, a new plant and a new idea.  Please come along We
                                                                                            would love to see you .  7  November, 7.30 p.m  Drax Hall  all welcome.
