glass from the rear windows and frightening their Scottie dog ‘Jock’.
He could remember hearing it whistle as it went by!
One recent weekend Mum and Dad went to Weston-Super-Mare. During the
trip, Dad dropped the car keys down a drain. He tried in vain to retrieve them
but couldn’t grab them. He had to call Andrew to come up and bring his
spare set of keys. Andrew made the trip and was rewarded with a meal at the
Grand Atlantic Hotel and a day in Weston!

During his time at Caerwent he and his coworker Gerry Watts were quite
mischevious. They had several wheeled chairs in their offices and performed in
their own swivel chair ballet troupe when their boss was not around!
During his annual holidays in Lanzarote he competed in many of the hotel
sports including golf and archery and often won prizes there! He could not sit
down and do nothing! He also made a point of taking a dip in the sea each
         day on holiday.
In 1971 his friend Ray was laid off at work in Wales and got a job in Poole. John
generously invited Lesley, Ray and their daughters Jayne and Helen to come
and live in their home in Bere Regis with his family. They stayed for about 6
months with both families sharing the same house.

His daughter Carolyn dragged him reluctantly onto Facebook in 2017. He soon
mastered this and had many video calls with his son Andrew, family in South
Africa, his daughter in the USA and kept up with the Bere Regis Facebook
         group.
We never heard him swear, even when Brexit went the wrong way for him and
when Carolyn and Andrew weren’t the best behaved!

         Bere Community Quotes
Finally, I would like to share some kind quotes from the Bere Regis Community.
“John really was a well-loved man from young and
old, don't matter what he done he always put his heart
and soul in it. John was a very sincere man loved by
         us all. “

“John was a lovely man & always had time for you.”
“John was so lovely and a true gent one of the nicest
and kindest people you are ever likely to meet.”
