My dear Friends,
‘For all that has been - Thanks! To all that shall be – Yes!’ is one of many quotable
sayings of Dag Hammarskjold, who was the second Secretary General of the
United Nations, serving from 1953 to 1961, when he was killed in a plane crash.
Those of my own generation and older will hopefully recall him with great
admiration.

At the beginning of this New Year, I feel I want to echo those words. I hope that
although 2016 may have brought sadness, challenge and possibly illness at times
for some people – and there will always be some of that aspect for most of us - we
can look back on the past year with a sense of thankfulness. In all likelihood, it
should primarily be about the people that God has given us in our lives but it may
also be about where we live, the nature of our work and the joy of good health
and for some of us the peace that flows from our faith in a truly loving God.
