To give you an idea of what we get up to, our sections have produced a brief
summary of their activities since we returned to near-normal routine after
lockdown.
Kingsbere Explorer Unit (14 to
18 years)
Kingsbere Explorers enjoyed a summer
term packed full of outside activities and
returned in September for an evening
welcoming new members with some team
building exercises. Other evening activities
so far this term have included a night river
walk in Wareham, a ‘Save the Planet’
pizza night, a scrapheap challenge and a
Brownie Bake Off.
Some of our members attended a very
wet but enjoyable County Explorer Camp
during the first weekend of October at
Brown John’s campsite in Crossways.
Activities included bushcraft, tomahawk
throwing and a visit to Warmwell
Snowsports Centre. A District Explorers
Halloween Camp is taking place at the
end of October which will involve all sorts of spooky challenges and a hike to the
coast.
Many of our Explorers are taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s award scheme.
Two of our members participated in Gold expeditions during the summer. Edward
completed his Gold practice and assessed expeditions in Dartmoor and Benji got
through his Gold practice in Snowdonia, Wales. Bronze and Silver level expeditions
are being planned for the spring term.
And, of course, many members are looking forward in anticipation to the delayed
Borneo Expedition now planned for the Summer of 2023.
If you’re aged between 14-18 years old and you would like to have fun, meet
new friends, experience new indoor and outdoor activities, learn skills for life,
discover new places, cultures and communities, our Explorer Scouts normally
meet on a Tuesday evening at 7pm (at the Scout Hut or at an activity location).
Several of our Leader team are trained DofE Supervisors and Assessors to Gold
Award level so you can participate in the DofE scheme and Queen’s Scout
award alongside our regular programme. For more details and information please
email Helen on helen.uj@hotmail.co.uk.
