OVER THE HILL
As I write this on the 11 of May, there are very black clouds promising yet more
th
rain. Yesterday, however, besides a few showers, we had some wonderful periods
of sun shine, which extenuated the wonderful shades of green from all the foliage
of the trees, shrubs, grasses and herbs, which seemed to be glorifying and
celebrating these periods of bright sunshine and higher temperatures. What a
wonderful and beautiful world we live in and we must appreciate it and
understand what we must do to maintain this wonderful earth,
We, the world’s senior and most demanding species, Homo sapiens, are
responsible for most of the changes that occur in our environment, other than
those that are purely the result of natural occurrences. Possibly today, we are far
more aware of the effects that we can have on our environment than previous
generations. This is something we must be aware of, since the human population
is far more numerous than ever before and we all expect more of all the natural
resources available to us. We must be very aware of the responsibilities that we
have before us in the natural world and be thankful of all we receive from it.
On Rogation Sunday, Rev. Sandra made us aware of what the Lord prepares for
and gives to us in the following words:-
You visit the earth and water it.
You greatly enrich it.
The river of God is full of water;
You supply the people with grain,
For so you have prepared it.
You water its furrows abundantly,
Settling its ridges, softening it with showers
And blessing its growth.
She then went further asking for a blessing on our land, for the seasonable
weather we enjoy, for the crops we grow, for the protection against blight.
